With the school year finally at a close, the summer provides a quick chance for the Mosquito Education team to catch up on equipment maintenance, inventory and prepare for another fast approaching August. On July 15th the team traveled to the Imaginarium History and Science Center in Fort Myers where they finished the last of a series of Camps for the IMAG.
This month the education team also welcomed two new members, Ian Sharp and Amy Lucas. Ian comes to us from Collier County, a former higher school teacher and Director of Biomedical Science in Collier County’s career and technical education academies. Ian is also a Coast Guard Veteran. Amy is a seasoned and decorated elementary science teacher from Lee County. Amy has specialized experience in the development of field science activities for younger students and has several experientially based teaching certifications. Each is bringing with them years of highly effective experience. These past few weeks they have been studying for their core exams and participating in “Mosquito Boot Camp,” switching from the role of teacher to student as they worked side by side with each department at Lee County Mosquito Control, experiencing firsthand the concepts they will be taking into the classroom.
