Amy Lucas

Education Resource Specialist

Amy Lucas started with Lee County Mosquito Control District in the summer of 2022 as an Education Resource Specialist. Lucas has been a classroom teacher with Lee County School District since 2004. An elementary expert, Lucas has taught subjects across the K-5 curriculum for over 16 years. Facilitating engaging, and often outdoor activities helping to make the connections to classroom learning more meaningful for her students in science. These have included everything from trips to the mud flats and owl pellet dissections to participating in IB Exhibition Science Fair Projects.

Lucas holds a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from The Indiana University of
Pennsylvania (2000), Magna Cum Laude. As a highly effective rated teacher she has been a Golden Apple Nominee every year since 2004. Her professional interests involve attending workshops to enhance student engagement and attending training tailored to developing best-practices in math and science. Lucas is ESOL and Kagan certified, serving as the Learning Representative for the 5th grade team of teachers at her school. Lucas enjoys sharing curriculum ideas, and inquiry-based project plans with her team and believes that people of all ages can learn.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Lucas spent most of her childhood exploring the outdoors and playing sports. Her favorite pastimes still involve many of the passions of her youth: hiking, camping, exploring new places, and anything involving the beach or mountains. When she’s not working, she can usually be found cheering for her kids at their sporting events and attending extracurricular activities of former students to cheer for them, as well. If asked where she would like to go on vacation, she would respond with, “Some place NEW!” She values time with her family and her dog Mya (best dog on the planet).

Jamie Fowler

Community Engagement Coordinator

Jamie Fowler started working for the Lee County Mosquito Control District in the summer of 2018. Previously she worked for the Lee County School District for 10 years providing various support roles in Transportation, Curriculum, and the Grants Department.

Jamie is a local Floridian, born and raised in Fort Myers. As a child, she was a member of the 4H club, with a grand champion steer under her belt. She is a North Fort Myers High graduate and was a red knight cheerleader (GO BIG RED!). Jamie moved to Lakenheath in Suffolk, England and then returned to the States, spending a few years in Knob Noster, Missouri. Later, she moved back to her hometown to be closer to family and get back to the Florida sunshine.

Her professional interests include educating people about mosquito control and the public health issues affecting citizens in Southwest Florida. She enjoys speaking to people, enhancing their general understanding of what mosquito control is all about. She strives to continuously learn new things and appreciates the vast complexity of mosquito and arbovirus control.

Jamie loves spending time on the water as much as possible. She also enjoys live music, attending as many concerts as time will allow. Most importantly, she loves spending quality time with her family, watching her daughter grow into an amazing young woman.
